Health care workers at St. John’s Well Child and Family Center reached an agreement with the clinic’s management that will improve the lives of patients and workers.
Among the important gains included in their first contract are:

A wage scale that recognizes and rewards employees for their years of service and dedication to St. John’s. -
Establishment of a committee that will meet regularly to strengthen St. John’s through a l
abor-management partnership. -
More paid sick days and paid holiday leave. -
Reimbursements for education and job skills training.

Increased employer contributions to dependent health care premiums. -
Strong contract language that supports an efficient and fair workplace.
“I’m overjoyed with the results of bargaining,” says Miguel Chavez, a case manager at the St. John’s clinic in Compton. “These agreements give us job security, ownership in our work and pride in this organization. It will all translate into better patient care.”
Both workers and management described the negotiating process as “collaborative.”
“I’m really excited,” said Jim Mangia, the CEO of St. John’s. “This is a perfect example o f how labor and management can work together to improve patient care and build a stronger organization. It shows we’re all on the same side.”
