Ventura County Human Service Workers to Present a Compromise That Protects Services for Vulnerable Families to Board of Supervisors

Ventura County Human Services Agency workers and the SEIU 721 bargaining committee, which is made up of union members elected from all Ventura County departments, have hammered out a compromise proposal aimed at resolving the contract dispute with Ventura County.

In mid-February, Ventura County management negotiators demanded that Article 32 (HSA Caseload/Workload Standards) be eliminated or gutted, leaving workers with no protection against escalating, unreasonable, or punitive caseloads and workloads.

SEIU 721 members rejected this demand, offering instead to empower the current Workload Committee, a group comprised of both management and workers, to develop new standards, which would then be incorporated into a replacement for the current article.

On March 8, union members will present their compromise proposal to the Ventura County Board of Supervisors. If the compromise isn’t accepted the county could impose their final proposal which would eliminate the caseload article.
