Election Results for LA City Council Races, Measures

SEIU 721 members poured hours into volunteer work to help elect LA City Council candidates andMarch-2011-Election-Button.jpg support revenue-generating measures that would go a long way to preserving services in Los Angeles.  

Bob Schoonover 80x80.jpg“We made a statement about our ability to come together,” said Bob Schoonover, a Heavy-Duty Equipment Mechanic and SEIU 721 President. “Workers dedicated their time and effort to campaign for candidates we believe would better serve our community.”

Critical races for Council District 8 in South Los Angeles remain in contention. Reports for most precincts showed Bernard Parks leading SEIU 721 endorsed candidate Forescee Hogan-Rowles. Meanwhile, provisional ballots remain uncounted.

Harrell,-Charles,-DOT-Traffic-Officer-80x80.jpg“We support Forescee because residents in South LA feel neglected and are tired of the potholes, the poor condition of our streets and neighborhoods,” said DOT Traffic Officer Charles Harrell.

 

Jose Huizar breezed to an easy victory in Council District 14 with the support of LA City workers. 

Other LA City incumbent candidates, endorsed by SEIU members, also took the lead:

  • Paul Krekorian of CD 2
  • Herb J. Wesson, Jr. of CD 10 

Voters also passed critical measures to raise revenue, protect good jobs and revive LA’s economy.

Voters supported measures that would reduce pensions for newly hired police officers and firefighters, reassign funds from the city’s general operating budget to the City library system and implement a business tax on medical marijuana dispensaries.
