SEIU Local 721’s Latino Caucus celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month with a spirited, fun-filled gathering on Sept. 20, 2013. On the second floor parking lot of the Los Angeles headquarters, members danced for hours with the LA City skyline behind them.
The event featured an Indigenous ceremony, a Mariachi band and speeches from elected leaders and community allies. The crowd also honored Latin American Independence with a spread of food from different nations.
“It was a really successful event. People came out to learn about the movement for justice in the Latino community and to have a good time. Some members said they learned more about their heritage that night than they ever did in school.”
