“The county refuses to take the lead by immediately taking the same level of cuts they are asking of the workers that actually provide the services to the public. Instead they propose a Fairness Agreement that allows them to maintain “flexibility” to offer special perks or benefits to attract and recruit “shining stars” for their management positions only. ” –
Wendy Thomas, communications supervisor and chief negotiator for county workers.
In a show of good faith, earlier in the day SEIU 721 cancelled several of the larger actions scheduled for Tuesday, June 13, however this failed to motivate Riverside County management to treat members fairly at the bargaining table.
The several hundred public service workers from SEIU 721, LIUNA 777 and community members in attendance at the Riverside and Indio rallies sent a clear message back to the SEIU bargaining team – WE ARE READY to fight back against more cuts!

It is a big mistake doing this to the nurses. We are looking else where. They will be losing more and more nurses. We should not be grouped with other job categories anyways, period. We are not getting raises or COLAS for years now and are way behind in pay.
Is it time to leave the county? Maybe we should all go work for RSO!
I agree that pay for nurses needs to be increased. However, being a county worker in another field, I also feel strongly about the 8% cut that they are proposing along with the freeze of pay. In the last year, gas has gone up tremendously which impacts groceries, dry goods as well as clothing. Another cut puts a lot of workers at bare minimum and those at a higher pay level streteched to the max. Stop penalizing the workers BOARD OF SUPERVISORS and listen to some of the proposed cuts in other areas. You all have blinders on and are like a head strong child that demands their own way!
I think that RNs shouldn’t be getting more that the rest of us. I realize that your job is really important, but try working with all the computers down. Everyone in the county is important and should ALL be treated fairly. RNs aren’t the only ones that haven’t gotten step increases or COLA. RNs in the past have gotten extra incentives to stay working for the county. We are all in this together. The union should negotiate for everyone fairly. Everyone should have the same benefits not just one group of people.
