For more than two weeks, you have been voting in worksites across LA County to give your bargaining team the authority to escalate actions and possibly call for a strike in order to win a fair contract with LA County.
Today we counted the ballots and the result is AN OVERWHELMING YES VOTE. 95 percent of voters approved the authorization.
That means tens of thousands of you said YES, I want a contract that makes LA County a better place to work and live. Tens of thousands of you said YES, I support my bargaining team. Tens of thousands of you said YES, I want a contract that improves our lives and the lives of the people we serve and I will take action to get it.
“I voted yes for a fair deal for all of LA County. We are proud to have put together a package of proposals that will benefit everyone who lives here. It’s time for the County to respect its employees and the communities we serve and I’m ready to take action to make sure that happens.”
– Almira Garza, Children’s Social Worker
One special note:
The number of votes cast and the outpouring of enthusiasm were unprecedented in this union’s history. That means we are all more united than ever in our pursuit of a fair deal for us and all of LA.
What’s Next:
After the votes were counted, members started assembling picket signs. We hope we won’t have to strike, but if it comes to that, we’re going to be ready. In the meantime, we’ve got more escalated actions planned. Expect to hear from the bargaining team soon.
