On Wednesday, September 26, SEIU Local 721 along with Refund California will be holding a Tour and Teach-In at a 1% neighborhood. First, on the Tour we will point out the mansions that house some of the largest political donors, those who are trying to buy California’s election.



Crushing the Workload Monster

SEIU 721 members are working with Ventura County management on a Workload Committee aimed at making it easier to serve the community. The last committee meeting was on July 25, 2012.


Weakness, Strength and Propaganda

$200 to $300 per month has been taken from us. The county wants to eliminate our retirement plan. Our healthcare costs continue to rise. I could be talking about Ventura County, but I could also be describing what is going on throughout the country.


SEIU 721 Donation Helps Steckel Park Aviary Fly

When Ventura County announced that they were going to be closing down the Aviary at Steckel Park, the community came together. On July 18, 2012, SEIU Local 721 stepped up with a check for 2,000 for the Friends of the Aviary group which is working to keep the long-time aviary open.



SEIU 721 Steward Takes Action to Provide Wellness Program in Camarillo

After 200 members moved into the new child support services Verdugo office in Camarillo, they were much further from Wellness services in Ventura. SEIU 721 steward, Shannon Abramovitch, took the initiative by reaching out to management and requesting a Wellness program there in the Camarillo facility. The first steps in the process have begun.


Simi Valley Inspectors Win 3.1% Raise

Earlier this year, Environmental Compliance Inspectors, including Valerie Leone, realized that their job duties had greatly expanded. Together with SEIU 721, members pressed management for a review of job duties. This review helped members in the Environmental Compliance Inspectors group win a 3.1% salary increase

SEIU 721 and a coalition of labor unions are leading the growing effort to stop Wal-Mart’s expansion of low wages in Los Angeles. Thousands in L.A. labor will march against Wal-Mart on June 30th in Chinatown.

Oxnard Members: “Where’s Our Raise?”

Members speak out at the Oxnard City Council meeting on Interim City Manager’s proposed 10% raise.

Dozens of SEIU 721 members packed the June 12 city council meeting where the council was to consider giving Interim City Manager Karen Burnham a 10% raise retroactive to February 7, 2012. Members demanded to know why a 10% raise should be granted while the city pleads poverty at the bargaining table.
