WE DID IT: Workplace Violence Standard Adopted!
On October 20, the Cal/OSHA Standard Board unanimously voted to adopt the first workplace violence prevention standard for healthcare workers in California! Our hope is that this Standard will be used as a template at the national level. All of us are passionate about the work we do and the care we provide to patients, clients, and their families — but workplace safety is crucial, especially given our field of work.

SEIU Local 721 President’s Report for October 2016
Safety & Justice Public Health Nursing Conference Highlights!
On Thursday, October 6, 2016, we made history by conducting the first Continuing Education Units Conference put on by SEIU Local 721. It was an absolutely amazing event! On that over 90 members attended!
This conference was imagined, designed, organized, and carried out by our own SEIU 721 Nurse Alliance Steering Committee, along with a conference planning committee comprised of PHNs, all working in partnership with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.
In addition, we held a benefits fair during which we were able to discuss all of the measures and candidates on the ballot, offer workers an opportunity to sign membership cards, join the Committee on Political Education, and enroll folks as volunteers in our efforts to reach every worker and retiree by phone, and door to door. We were able to connect the dots for everyone on how this conference, and the upcoming election connect with the work they do every day.
In our evaluation of the event we asked members, if this conference, the benefits fair and the political program helped them get a better understanding of our Union- 100% of participants answered YES!
Saturday, September 24th: Don’t miss Income Inequality Day at the DTLA Film Fest!
Everything You Need On Election Day in the IE, LA, and the Tri-Counties!
We’ve got candidate recommendations – whether you live in the Inland Empire, Los Angeles County, or the Tri-Counties region!
POLLS ARE OPEN FROM 8 AM TO 8 PM ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 8: Click here to verify your polling location and to review your customized voter guide!
VOTING IS A RIGHT, NOT A PRIVILEGE! If anyone attempts to interfere with your right to vote, please call 1-866-OUR-VOTE, (1-866-687-8683) or visit http://www.866ourvote.org/ right away!
Public workers have felt the brunt of multi-millionaires’ greed, with cuts to key public services hurting us all, and understaffing across cities and counties forcing so many to work more for less. Voting is how we make sure working families have the opportunity to do better. Our union voice matters!
So show your power and make your voice heard at the ballot box! Vote for candidates who will stand up for working families and make sure your fellow union members vote, too!
