‘Zeroing In On Ordinary Workers’

Anti-worker politicians like Newt Gingrich and Jeb Bush are trying to pass federal legislation that would allow states to file for bankruptcy, according to this piece in The Oregonian. But don’t pay any attention to the high-minded language the legislation’s backers are throwing out: this is a naked attack on Red Cross workers, bus drivers and other public service workers.
The stakes couldn’t be higher. Gingrich, Bush and other enemies of the middle class “are zeroing in on ordinary workers and retirees, putting wages and benefits on the line,” according to this thoughtful article from The Huffington Post.
HuffPo’s piece tells the story of David de Alba, a 45-year old mechanic with the City of Vallejo, which filed for bankruptcy three years ago. Since then de Alba’s seen his income shrink, his benefits slashed and his colleagues laid off. He’s now losing his home to foreclosure and headed into personal bankruptcy. “They pretty much destroyed my life,” de Alba says of the city.
It’s time to get real about state and municipal bankruptcies. If allowed to happen, they will destroy millions of lives. Start fighting back by reading and commenting on the articles below.

  1. I think the first place that we ought to go when looking at “gov” workers is not the rank and file civil servant who really does work for the people, but fat-cat scam artists like Gingrich, who used public office to springboard to what is really unearned wealth at public expense! What has he actually ever done that had any benefit for any of the public he was charged to work for, nothing I can think of, but his own bulging pockets are certainly full to overflowing!
